Over the last nine years, the EIT Climate-KIC Accelerator Programme has supported early-stage climate positive ventures in 32 locations across Europe along with 33 Climate-KIC partners. The Programme has supported over 2000 start-ups going through the technological and commercial valley of death helping them to mature into scalable businesses. While we are proud of these achievements, we also know that entrepreneurship support in Europe has changed dramatically in recent years and the climate change challenge has now reached emergency proportions. In order to adapt and meet this challenge head-on, the Accelerator Programme will be re-focused and new elements will be introduced based on the wider EIT Climate-KIC new strategy - Transformation, in Time – which aims to catalyze rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes through innovation to unlock a net-zero, resilient future.
The key areas the Programme we will look at: full integration of entrepreneurship in the EIT Climate-KIC portfolio approach, building synergies between our partners and start-ups to test innovations, moving from a supply-led model to a demand-led model, and building stronger ecosystems to help our start-ups grow. Finally, we want to enhance our focus on climate impact.
